Additional Description: For sale at the St. Louis Car Museum is an outstanding 1947 Mercury Woodie Station Wagon displaying a restoration to a worthy 79M Station Wagon! This classic Mercury represents one of only 3558 produced in 1947, even fewer remain today! This particular example has been completely refinished in methodical fashion with show-worthy results inside, outside, and underneath. A superb driver that is also fully sorted for immediate road use and enjoyment! This is a great opportunity to own a ready to drive classic woodie. Contact us today for a closer look! The Mercury was a perfect fit for the Ford Motor Company as an intermediate offering between Ford's upscale Deluxe model, and their premium Lincoln brand. Mercury offered the Eight Series in a multitude of body styles through the early 1950's. Styling changes were minimum after World War II, and it wasn't until 1947 that truly noticeable changes were seen. It was this year you would find the Mercury name placed on the side of the hood, along with the grill no bordered in chrome. The vertical EIGHT script on the center remained from 1946. Different hubcaps were used with script painted in black with white wings accenting the letters. More chrome was used on the interior around the dash instrumentation with redesigned dial faces. All models featured cloth interiors, only the convertible and station wagon models were available with leather upholstery. Available for purchase in St. Louis, MO is a stunningly restored 1947 Mercury Eight Station Wagon, or Woodie as they have been affectionately known. The beautiful example seen here was treated to a full frame-off restoration with exquisite results! Finished in Midland Maroon over Brown Leather interior with beautifully refinished exterior wood in maple/birch framing with mahogany inner paneling. Additional features include a 239 Flathead V8 producing 100 factory horsepower mated to a 3-speed manual transmission, with a Columbia 2-speed overdrive rear axle. Options include signal-seeking AM radio with tone control, cowl ventilation, deluxe heater/defrost, rubber floor mats, working electric clock, original hubcaps and trim rings, Firestone Deluxe Champion 6.70-15 wide whitewall tires, trumpet horns, fender rock guards, 3 rows of seating, reverse light, rear mounted spare with hard cover, and V8 turndown exhaust tip. We are proud to represent one of the finest Woodies available on the market, restored to the highest standards without a nut or bolt left untouched during the process! With the chassis fully repainted and fitted with all new rubber suspension bushings, all new mounting hardware, new shocks, stainless fuel and brake lines, all new braking equipment, parking brake cables, fully rebuilt front end, rebuilt engine, transmission and rear differential! The body was meticulously stripped to bare metal, primed, and painted in an expert manner with results that would prove worthy at the concours level. Even the inner fenders well were polished and finished to match the exterior. To our knowledge the original exterior wood remains all original and professionally refinished to outstanding, better than new condition. Inside the cabin, the continued effort to produce show worthy standards, the flooring, seating upholstery, dash finish, and beautiful gauges all continue to look simply amazing! This example has a California history that later placed the model seen here into the Pack Auto Museum in Carrollton, Texas in August 2012. Sam Pack is a very successful automotive dealer with four Ford dealerships throughout Texas, along with one Chevrolet and one Subaru franchise. Mr. Pack's is well regarded as having one of the finest collections of dealership-owned classic and special interest automobiles in the country, showcasing some 265 vehicles on display for tours! He must have been successfully convinced to sell this particular Mercury Station Wagon to another Ford dealership owner; Watson Quality Ford based in Jackson, Mississippi in October 2014. We were lucky to acquire this exceptional collector piece just after the Watson dealership sold, and the majority of the Watson Ford collection was sold off along with it soon after. Make no mistake about the sincere quality of this classic Mercury's restoration. From the all new wiring, to all new window glass, it is now presented in show worthy with a drivable quality that would rival any other Woodie on the market. A sensational example throughout and one we invite any prospective buyers to come see in person. Finding factory production wood structure vehicles in the Ford/Mercury brand, all constructed by the hands of a unique labor team of about 300 craftsmen, are becoming very difficult to find in this condition. In fact, only 3,558 Mercury 79M Station Wagon examples were produced in 1947. Those that remain are not only special, but a complete disregard to what time and Mother Nature's effort to bring them back to earth! Recalls are a well-established global practice; from time to time they are announced by almost all manufacturers of not only cars, but also any other industrial products. But since a car is considered a source of increased danger, it is recalls in the automotive industry that attract the most attention and cause the greatest resonance. Check if your car is covered by a recall campaign. Sometimes manufacturers will recall their cars because of substandard parts or workmanship and repair them for free, regardless of the warranty. This is called a recall campaign. More information on 1947 Mercury EIGHT recalls can be found in this database. It may be useful to use online problems resource that shows automotive defect patterns, based on complaint data submitted by vehicle owners. The problems are organized into groups with data published by vehicle, component, and specific issue. See also an updated list of 1947 Mercury EIGHT problems before buying a used car. In most cases, the recall is initiated by the manufacturer. But it also happens that it is forced to do so. The largest and most scandalous recall campaigns were those that were initiated by complaints and lawsuits from consumers through controlling state structures.
